Wintertide Intrudes

Shadows of Christmas fall like tears,
Bright days wane away into the winter
Of cold, wet, drab, and dull.
The frenzied pace of holiday prep
Now leaves remnants of empty boxes, empty stockings, empty hearts.

Oh let it not be.
The time fulfilled,
You came to us,
A Savior babe,
To live with us.
Your joy and peace
Don’t take away.
Our God with us, Immanuel, the Great I AM,
Occupy our hearts again.

Expectations emerge as festivities approach.
Imaginations dream of terrific times
With family and friends, rarely seen,
Together again for a very brief time
To laugh and love and live.

Interruptions of human shortfalls break in,
Leaving sorrow and sadness aplenty.
Disagreements, arguments, failure, death,
Reality blemishes gatherings.
Disappointments afflict daily life.

Oh let it not be.
The time fulfilled,
You came to us,
A Savior babe,
To live with us.
Your joy and peace
Don’t take away.
Our God with us,
Emmanuel, the Great I AM,
Occupy our hearts again.

WHAT? Darkness conquers?
Absolutely not! Truth prevails
As perspective determines state of mind.

Set eyes and heart on a timeless Godstrong, steadfast, unchanging—and remember...
Nothing, absolutely nothing, even death, can separate us from the Great I AM.
God is with us!

Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand. Psalm 73:23 (NASB)

…teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 (NASB)
