Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;
You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.
The Lord will accomplish what concerns me;
Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands. Psalm 138:7-8 (NASB)
“The Lord will accomplish what concerns me.”
I sat in our sanctuary after midnight praying while others read from Scripture. Our church’s open door allowed believers to pray inside around the clock during this holy weekend. Even though it was still dark, it was Easter Sunday, a special day to celebrate what our Lord God did for a sinful world. On this day we remember how Jesus burst forth from the grave and overcame death. His resurrection gives eternal life to all who believe in His name. What a Savior!
I opened my Bible to allow God’s Word to direct my prayers. It opened to Psalm 133 and my eyes noticed the word unity. For divided hearts, families, churches, communities, and the world, I prayed for God to unite. Turning to Psalm 136, I recalled how responsive readings functioned. The pastor read a line and the congregation responded with a repeating phrase. This psalm speaks of God’s mighty acts with a constant reminder—for His lovingkindness is everlasting. His lovingkindness is everlasting!
Reading up to Psalm 138, I felt the pain of distress from the writers while being encouraged to remember God’s faithfulness. He always supplied devotion and dedication to His people, yet they resorted to tears and fear as they cried out to God. Mixed in with their sorrows were remembrances of His goodness. The Lord is faithful!
Immediately I realized pains of my own as tears fell down my cheeks. Here I sat celebrating the passion of my Lord while doubting His working in my life. Praying with the psalmist, I began to give thanks to God for all His mercy lavished on me. Then words leaped off the page and into my heart—the Lord will accomplish what concerns me. The Lord will accomplish what concerns me. Praise God!
Why do I doubt such an awesome God? Why did the Israelites waver in their faith? Because of sin, weakness, and lack of certainty in the God of Creation, the God of Redemption, the God of all. Forgive me, Christ Jesus! Forgive us, Lord!
Your Word stands the test of time. Your Word is Truth. Your Word never fails in uncertain times. Your Word never changes. You are faithful. You are good. Your lovingkindness is everlasting. Thank you, Father God!
Place remembrances in my mind of Your constant love, grace, and mercy. Let me never forget Your faithfulness to me. I celebrate Your everlasting lovingkindness, Lord. I know You will accomplish what concerns me! I give You thanks, Lord God, and sing Your praises. AMEN.
I walked out of my church into the night ready to celebrate my Lord’s resurrection. His brightness covered my sorrows and His Light rose over my life. I go with You, Jesus, as I remember what You did for me, what You are doing for me, and what You will do for me. You are the Author and Finisher of my faith. Your lovingkindness is everlasting! You will accomplish what concerns me.
And He will do the same for you. Trust Him and believe on His holy Name—JESUS—the Way, the Truth, and the Life. His lovingkindness is everlasting. He will accomplish what concerns you.
Know that God is working to accomplish all that concerns you as you listen to the song "Eye of the Storm" by Ryan Stevenson.......
