Jesus, My Security

“Mine, mine,” she cried, tired and ready for bed. My granddaughter’s name for her blanket is “mine” and she smiles with delight when someone hands it to her. The blanket is her security and she snuggles it tightly.

As I watch her growing and learning daily (sometimes minute by minute), I realize how overwhelming it must be to continuously discover new things. How comforting it is to be able to take hold of something that’s been with you since the beginning and suddenly feel a sense of calm. It’s satisfying to be blanketed with security in a world of unknowns.

We desire security; safety and protection wrap us in comfort. I looked up the word “security” in my thesaurus and found some wonderful substitute words: armor, care, cover, defense, guarantee, guard, insurance, promise, redemption, salvation, sanctuary, shelter, shield, surety. As I pondered those words, I realized that I could replace every word with the name of Jesus. He is all those things to us.

Jesus promises redemption and salvation, insuring eternal life for all believers. The cross is His guarantee; His caring love covers me with His blood. He provides shelter in the midst of my storms.

Every morning before sunrise as I enter His sanctuary, I am filled with peace. His sure promises guard my heart all day long. He shields me from Satan’s evil schemes. He provides the armor that protects me from the ways of the world. He enables me to guard and defend His Word so that others will be drawn to Him, seeking security from Him only. He gives me courage to cry “MINE” and covers me with surety. I delight in His comfort while I rest in His safe sanctuary. Thank you, Jesus!

Here is the perfect hymn written by Fanny Crosby to give Him praise for all His benefits:

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain -
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love. AMEN.

Jesus is our security, yours and mine. But in times of trial, do we believe Him and rest in His promises? In order to KNOW His promises, we must store up those treasures in our hearts.

Again I used my thesaurus for the word “store”. Look at these substitute words for store as if to collect and put aside: hide, keep, lay away, lay up, plant, reserve, save for a rainy day, stockpile, treasure. Now look at the word “store” as a collection and supply: abundance, fountain, mine, nest egg, plethora, provision, quantity, reservoir, savings, spring, wares, wealth, well. I see Jesus again!

Take hold of your Savior, your security blanket, who’s been with you since the beginning. Read His Word daily and let His truth fill your soul. Build for yourself a “nest egg” of Scripture by writing down verses and committing them to memory.

God’s Word says in Deuteronomy 11:18-19 - Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Plant an abundance of God’s seed within your hearts and watch it spring forth for you and your family. The Parable of the Soils in Luke 8:11-15 reads:

“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

Store up the word and save it for a rainy day. Stockpile it for those times of war. The reservoir of God’s promises will spill over as an abundant fountain of life when they have been laid away in your heart.

We MPs are “watch women” of the Word. We must bury the Word in our hearts so that we can cry out God’s words back to Him.

*Put on your armor (Ephesians 6:10-18) and go to Jesus, your sanctuary.

*Cry out to Him and contend with Him over His promises - Put Me in remembrance; Let us contend together; State your case, that you may be acquitted - Isaiah 43:26.

*Rest in the surety that one day those grown children of yours will return home, tired and weary, crying, “Mine, mine.”

*Believe that they will delight in the safety, protection, and provision of Christ.

MPs, we must fight for our children in prayer, using God’s Words that are buried in our hearts. The following words are your marching orders to join the battle on your knees. It’s a hymn written by Norman O. Forness.

Rise up, O saints of God! From vain ambitions turn;
Christ rose triumphant that your hearts with nobler zeal might burn.

Speak out, O saints of God! Despair engulfs earth’s frame;
As heirs of God’s baptismal grace, His word of hope proclaim.

Rise up, O saints of God! His kingdom’s task embrace;
Redress sin’s cruel consequence; give justice larger place.

Give heed, O saints of God! Creation cries in pain;
Stretch forth your hand of healing now, with love the weak sustain.

Commit your hearts to seek the paths which Christ has trod
And quickened by the Spirit’s power, Rise up, O saints of God!

AMEN! Come, Lord Jesus!
